What is IUI and IVF?Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a fertility treatment that involves placing sperm directly into a woman's uterus to facilitate fertilization. It is often recommended for couples experiencing unexplained infertility, mild male factor infertility, or cervical mucus issues. In vitro fertilization (IVF), is a complex fertility treatment where eggs are fertilized by sperm outside the body and then implanted into the uterus. Our fertility program uses TCM acupuncture to aid in becoming pregnant. It is a great alternative method for increasing the chances of conceiving and improving fertility. We work collaboratively with other medical providers on your team. If you are going through unexplained infertility, IVF, IUI or any other complex infertility issues, we can help. How can acupuncture enhance fertility treatments?Acupuncture may offer several benefits for those undergoing IUI or IVF such as: Improved Blood Circulation: Acupuncture can enhance blood flow to the uterus and ovaries, which may improve the uterine lining's condition, making it more receptive to embryo implantation. Hormonal Regulation: By stimulating specific points on the body, acupuncture helps regulate hormonal imbalances that are crucial for a successful IVF/IUI cycle. This can support the synchronization of the menstrual cycle with the IVF treatment plan. Stress and Anxiety Reduction: The process of IVF/IUI can be emotionally and physically taxing. Acupuncture is known for promoting relaxation, reducing stress and anxiety, which can positively impact fertility and the overall IVF/IUI experience. Improved Egg Quality: Some research suggests that acupuncture may improve ovarian function, potentially leading to better egg quality, which is vital for successful fertilization and embryo development. Enhanced Endometrial Receptivity: Acupuncture may support the endometrial lining, enhancing its receptivity to the embryo and increasing the likelihood of implantation. Timing and Frequency of Acupuncture SessionsFor those undergoing IUI, acupuncture treatments are typically scheduled around key points in the cycle: Pre-IUI: Acupuncture sessions may be scheduled before the IUI procedure to prepare the body and support ovulation. Post-IUI: Additional sessions may occur after the IUI to support implantation and reduce stress. For individuals undergoing IVF, acupuncture treatments are typically tailored around the IVF cycle: Before Egg Retrieval: Sessions may be scheduled leading up to the egg retrieval process to prepare the body and support follicle development. After Embryo Transfer: Post-transfer acupuncture sessions can help support implantation and reduce stress during the critical waiting period. The frequency of sessions for either IVF or IUI can vary depending on individual needs and Dr. Zamora will advise each individual patient, but often involves treatments once or twice a week. What is pregnancy related nausea?Pregnancy-related nausea, commonly known as “morning sickness,” is believed to be caused by hormonal changes in the body. While the exact cause is not fully understood, it is thought to result from a combination of chemical and physical changes. Additionally, low blood sugar and fluctuating blood pressure can contribute to nausea during pregnancy. This condition is quite common and can occur at any stage, from the first to the third trimester, varying in severity. How can acupuncture help?Acupuncture can help reduce nausea and vomiting during pregnancy by influencing the digestive system and triggering the release of endorphins. One key point used in this practice is the P6 or Neiguan point, located on the inner wrist, which is particularly effective in alleviating nausea and other pregnancy-related symptoms. Several studies have shown that acupuncture can be as effective as conventional anti-nausea medications. At Zamora Acupuncture, we are dedicated to supporting expecting mothers through their pregnancy journey. If you’re struggling with pregnancy-related nausea, consider scheduling a consultation to learn more about how acupuncture can provide relief. With a personalized approach and a calming environment, we aim to help you find comfort and balance during this transformative time in your life. Embrace your pregnancy with confidence, knowing that effective help is available! What is the experience like during an acupuncture treatment?Pregnancy is a beautiful journey, but it can also come with its fair share of challenges, particularly in the form of morning sickness. For many expecting mothers, nausea can be a daily struggle, making it difficult to enjoy this special time. At Zamora Acupuncture, we understand the unique needs of pregnant women and offer acupuncture as a natural and effective solution to alleviate pregnancy-related nausea. Here’s what you can expect during a treatment session designed specifically for this purpose. Your experience at Zamora Acupuncture begins with a thorough consultation to understand your specific situation. During this initial meeting, Dr. Zamora will take the time to discuss your symptoms, medical history, and any other concerns you might have about your pregnancy. This personalized approach allows her to tailor the acupuncture treatment to meet your unique needs. After you’re comfortably positioned in one of our tranquil treatment rooms, Dr. Zamora will select specific acupuncture points known to help with pregnancy-related nausea. Common points often include areas on the wrists as well as other points that promote overall well-being and relaxation. Using ultra-thin, sterile needles, Dr. Zamora will gently insert them into the designated points. Many expecting mothers find this process surprisingly mild, with some reporting minimal to no discomfort. After the needles are in place, you’ll rest for about 30 minutes. It’s common for clients to drift into a state of deep relaxation during this phase. Once your relaxation period is over, the needles will be gently removed. Dr. Zamora will discuss your experience during the session and will provide tailored guidance on how to maintain your wellness at home. This may include recommendations for hydration, dietary adjustments, and relaxation practices that can further help alleviate your nausea. To achieve the best results, she may recommend a series of treatments based on your unique situation and response to the acupuncture. Pregnant women often find that regular sessions can significantly improve their symptoms, enhancing both physical comfort and emotional well-being. What are patients saying?"Kourtney is amazing! Very professional and knowledgeable. I was having a rough time with morning sickness, and after just one session I felt relief from the overwhelming nausea.
