What is IUI and IVF?Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a fertility treatment that involves placing sperm directly into a woman's uterus to facilitate fertilization. It is often recommended for couples experiencing unexplained infertility, mild male factor infertility, or cervical mucus issues. In vitro fertilization (IVF), is a complex fertility treatment where eggs are fertilized by sperm outside the body and then implanted into the uterus. Our fertility program uses TCM acupuncture to aid in becoming pregnant. It is a great alternative method for increasing the chances of conceiving and improving fertility. We work collaboratively with other medical providers on your team. If you are going through unexplained infertility, IVF, IUI or any other complex infertility issues, we can help. How can acupuncture enhance fertility treatments?Acupuncture may offer several benefits for those undergoing IUI or IVF such as: Improved Blood Circulation: Acupuncture can enhance blood flow to the uterus and ovaries, which may improve the uterine lining's condition, making it more receptive to embryo implantation. Hormonal Regulation: By stimulating specific points on the body, acupuncture helps regulate hormonal imbalances that are crucial for a successful IVF/IUI cycle. This can support the synchronization of the menstrual cycle with the IVF treatment plan. Stress and Anxiety Reduction: The process of IVF/IUI can be emotionally and physically taxing. Acupuncture is known for promoting relaxation, reducing stress and anxiety, which can positively impact fertility and the overall IVF/IUI experience. Improved Egg Quality: Some research suggests that acupuncture may improve ovarian function, potentially leading to better egg quality, which is vital for successful fertilization and embryo development. Enhanced Endometrial Receptivity: Acupuncture may support the endometrial lining, enhancing its receptivity to the embryo and increasing the likelihood of implantation. Timing and Frequency of Acupuncture SessionsFor those undergoing IUI, acupuncture treatments are typically scheduled around key points in the cycle: Pre-IUI: Acupuncture sessions may be scheduled before the IUI procedure to prepare the body and support ovulation. Post-IUI: Additional sessions may occur after the IUI to support implantation and reduce stress. For individuals undergoing IVF, acupuncture treatments are typically tailored around the IVF cycle: Before Egg Retrieval: Sessions may be scheduled leading up to the egg retrieval process to prepare the body and support follicle development. After Embryo Transfer: Post-transfer acupuncture sessions can help support implantation and reduce stress during the critical waiting period. The frequency of sessions for either IVF or IUI can vary depending on individual needs and Dr. Zamora will advise each individual patient, but often involves treatments once or twice a week. What is Moxibustion?Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy that has been practiced for thousands of years. It plays a crucial role in Eastern medicine, often used alongside acupuncture. This therapy involves the burning of a herb called moxa, which is typically made from dried Artemisia (commonly known as mugwort). The heat generated from the burning moxa is believed to stimulate energy flow and help maintain overall health. At Zamora Acupuncture, Dr. Zamora uses moxibustion to help women who have a breech presentation with great success. How Moxibustion worksThe process of moxibustion involves burning moxa either directly or indirectly on or near the skin at specific acupuncture points. There are two primary forms of moxibustion:

Enhancing IVF Success: How Acupuncture at Zamora Acupuncture Supports Your Fertility Journey2/4/2025 What is In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)?IVF is a fertility treatment consisting of a series of procedures designed to help couples struggling with infertility achieve pregnancy. How can acupuncture help?Acupuncture can be a beneficial complement to IVF, offering a range of advantages that support the body's natural processes and enhance fertility. Here are several ways in which acupuncture can aid in the IVF journey:
What is the experience like during an acupuncture treatment? At Zamora Acupuncture, an acupuncture treatment designed to support IVF typically follows a structured approach tailored to each individual's needs. Dr. Zamora will begin with an in-depth consultation to learn about your health history and discuss your fertility journey. You can share any specific concerns related to IVF and any symptoms you are experiencing, which will allow her to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals. Following the consultation, Dr. Zamora will select specific acupuncture points based on your treatment objectives. She will gently insert fine needles into these points, and you will be able to relax for about 20 to 30 minutes. During this time, you should feel deeply relaxed and may experience warmth or heaviness where the needles are inserted. After the session, Dr. Zamora will carefully remove the needles and engage in a conversation about how the treatment went. She may also offer advice on optimizing your IVF journey, which could include dietary recommendations, lifestyle modifications, or stress reduction techniques. The frequency and duration of acupuncture treatments can vary based on your IVF schedule and specific needs. Dr. Zamora will work with you to determine the best approach. She may suggest starting sessions several weeks before IVF procedures, continuing through critical phases like embryo transfer, and even beyond to support early pregnancy. What are patients saying?"Dr. Zamora is amazing. It is clear she knows and loves her profession and that comes out in her treatments and care for her patients."
