What is IUI and IVF?

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a fertility treatment that involves placing sperm directly into a woman's uterus to facilitate fertilization. It is often recommended for couples experiencing unexplained infertility, mild male factor infertility, or cervical mucus issues. 
In vitro fertilization (IVF), is a complex fertility treatment where eggs are fertilized by sperm outside the body and then implanted into the uterus.

Our fertility program uses TCM acupuncture to aid in becoming pregnant. It is a great alternative method for increasing the chances of conceiving and improving fertility. How can acupuncture enhance fertility treatments?

Acupuncture may offer several benefits for those undergoing IUI or IVF such as:
Improved Blood Circulation: Acupuncture can enhance blood flow to the uterus and ovaries, which may improve the uterine lining's condition, making it more receptive to embryo implantation.

Timing and Frequency of Acupuncture Sessions

For those undergoing IUI, acupuncture treatments are typically scheduled around key points in the cycle:
Pre-IUI: Acupuncture sessions may be scheduled before the IUI procedure to prepare the body and support ovulation.
Post-IUI: Additional sessions may occur after the IUI to support implantation and reduce stress.
For individuals undergoing IVF, acupuncture treatments are typically tailored around the IVF cycle:
Before Egg Retrieval: Sessions may be scheduled leading up to the egg retrieval process to prepare the body and support follicle development.
After Embryo Transfer: Post-transfer acupuncture sessions can help support implantation and reduce stress during the critical waiting period.
The frequency of sessions for either IVF or IUI can vary depending on individual needs and Dr. Zamora will advise each individual patient, but often involves treatments once or twice a week.
